Guy Jackson, Artist
Painting "in light of eternity..."

As a Contemporary Impressionist I paint mainly landscape and cityscape in oil. I enjoy painting picturesque subjects and destination spots that evoke fond memories and longings to warm the heart, encourage the soul, and bring a smile to the face.
I do not seek to render in photographic detail, but instead to create expressive, dynamic impressions so that the viewer can enter the scene personally, experiencing and completing it for themselves. I desire to help the viewer reconnect with the spiritual imprints of memories future. I agree with Aristotle’s statement, “The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.” And I believe the visual arts best serve humankind by joining nature in displaying the reality and beauty of our Creator (Romans 1:20). As an artist I merely “plagiarize God’s work.”
I consider myself an "Illuministic Impressionist". I seek to work with the Spirit to reawaken the human soul to the reality and beauty of God, through the visual arts, in the tradition of other great artists of the past. Thus, I paint "in light of eternity" to draw others to the beauty of their Creator. (Eccs. 3:11)
It continues to fascinate me that heaven, eternity and God are always described in terms of light, color and “glory” (Revelation 21:9-27). Perhaps what really connects with the inner soul of the lover of art is that universal longing to see, if only “…in a mirror dimly…” (1 Corinthians 13:12), a glimpse of the spiritual realm beyond this one, and ultimately, once again, the very face of God (Rev. 22:4)? Psalm 27:4- “One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord…”

“God’s glory is on tour in the skies, God-craft on exhibit across the horizon. Madame Day holds classes every morning, Professor Night lectures each evening. Their words aren’t heard, their voices aren’t recorded, but their silence fills the earth: unspoken truth is spoken everywhere.” Psalm 19:1-4 (The Message)

Artist's Bio
Guy was born in Dallas, Texas, and grew up in Longview, Texas. He and his wife Jackie reside in Boerne, Texas. Together they have four children and eleven grandchildren. Guy and Jackie love to travel, and many of his paintings are based upon locations and experiences they have enjoyed as they’ve journeyed.
Guy also enjoys golf, nature, theology, and teaching. Guy served for 23 years as a pastor in the local church (causing him to be dubbed as “the painting preacher” by one colleague!). For the past 16 years he has taught as an Associate Professor of Ministry Skills at the College of Biblical Studies, Houston, where he teaches Bible Study Methods, Principles of Biblical Teaching, and Spiritual Life Formation. He holds an undergraduate degree in English and Advertising Art, and postgraduate degrees in Christian Education, including a Doctor of Ministry degree in Christian Apologetics.
Guy is self taught and first started painting in oils in 2004 on a dare from his wife. Since 2008 Guy has won more than 27 awards and ribbons, including a first, second, and honorary mention in the regional Lone Star Art Guild competition in Humble, Texas, and a “Best of Show” at the Katy Area Artists’ Show. In his first official one-man show, Guy sold an incredible 28 paintings. Most recently, one of his paintings (“Date Night”) was accepted in the 2nd Annual Marilynn Dickey Open Juried Competition at the Sugar Land Art Center, Sugar Land, TX.
Guy is very honored to be one of the Artists in Residence for the Hill Country Council for the Arts, Boerne, TX. He is currently represented by Gallery 195 of Boerne, TX, and Helotes Gallery of Helotes, TX.
Guy especially enjoys painting “Plein Air” (pronounced “plane air”), meaning, “in the open air,” outdoors, following in the tradition of the French Impressionists, Sorolla, John Singer Sergeant, and other great artists of the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. Concerning Plein Air painting, Guy says, “For me it is a spiritual experience. I never feel closer to God than when I am outdoors in His creation, cooperating with Him in co-creating representations of His handiwork, ‘painting in light of eternity’ (Eccs. 3:11). Each time I pray for His assistance and I feel the smile of Heaven.” One of his favorite quotes is: "As an artist, I merely plagiarize God's work!" (Unknown)
One of Guy’s great desires is to see the visual arts once again have a meaningful place in the church, and especially to help the Christian artist develop an accurate biblical basis to inform and inspire their art for the glory of God and the good of mankind. “Soli Deo Gloria!”
